What does paipan (排盘) actually mean?

Paipan (排盘) literally means “laying out the chart”: converting your exact birth moment into the Four Pillars — year, month, day, and hour, each written as a Heavenly Stem plus Earthly Branch pair. The conversion is calendar astronomy, not guesswork: solar terms (节气) set the month boundaries, and the optional true solar time correction adjusts your birth hour to your birth city's longitude.
